CHARLIE FRANCIS
HM COASTGUARD
Charlie Francis has been a Coastguard Rescue Officer for several years with the Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team Search and Rescue along the coast. As a team they can be called to respond for shoreline searches for vessels, wreckage, abandoned ships, or missing persons. These can be in more urban areas or out at remote cliffs. But search is just the tip of the wave, of the work they do. They also respond to water rescues, mud rescues as well as technical ropes and have the ability to provide medical care.
Charlie is the first ever female mud technician for the Falmouth Team and the first in Cornwall. She’s also passionate about inspiring other females to volunteer or pursue a career in rescue. In her day job Charlie is a firefighter at a heliport ensuring the safety of passengers and staff.
During her free time Charlie spends most of her time outside exploring, from sea swimming and scuba diving to trail running and climbing. She loves to be outdoors no matter what the weather is doing from the coast to the mountains!
She hopes to venture into international search and rescue in the future.
